About the MolinoGroup
the MolinoGroup are a theatre and performance collective formed in 2011 by Bethany Pitts (Director) and Edward Fortes (Dramaturg).
Working with an acting ensemble in a collaborative way, the company develops new writing from a different angle, developing text through workshops alongside a more physical approach and with a writer in the room. In doing so, they aim to bridge the gap between new writing and devising practices.
We work with a number of regular collaborators across art forms, including Alexandra Baybutt (Movement), Odin Orn Hilmarsson (Sound), Katherine Leedale (Photography) and The Lab Collective (Sound and Video).
Previous work includes Desert (Bike Shed Theatre, Exeter & UK Tour), Esther, Flor, Ilona (Scooter Café, Waterloo) and Smoke / Mirrors (V&A Playhouse Festival).
Bethany Pitts is a director specialising in new work, both scripted and devised. She has recently directed Spine by Clara Brennan (2014 Edinburgh Fringe/Soho Theatre - Fringe First & Herald Angel Awards) and Free Fall by Vinay Patel (Pleasance Theatre - nominated for 3 Off West End awards, including Best Director). She was the Assistant Director at Theatre Royal Plymouth from 2012 – 2013, and was Resident Assistant Director at Theatre503; she has also directed on a freelance basis at Arcola Theatre, Ovalhouse and Live Theatre, Newcastle.
Edward Fortes is a dramaturg and translator, and co-founder of the MolinoGroup. He created the text for the MolinoGroup's productions of DESERT and [ Roland : a collage ], and his work has been seen at BAC, Theatre503 and the V&A Museum. A former Literary Associate of Ovalhouse, in 2013 he was selected as one of twenty European dramaturgs to take part in a workshop led by Florian Borchmeier (Schaubühne Berlin) at the Venice Biennale.
